Social media in college sports
While Texas Tech coach Mike Leach bans Twitter for his players, USC Trojan tailback Stafon Johnson tweeted to concerned fans about his recovery from a freak weightlifting accident that almost ended his life. Many coaches and universities, frightened by the new social media frontier, contimplate similar bans on social media sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. USC coach Pete Carroll, on the other hand, is more about social network than most of his players! He understands that the environment in which his players and fans are now surrounded is one that is highly entrenched in social media.
